Horseback Ride in Peru: Spiritual Journey Through the Sacred Valley

Upon meeting your horse at the Coronilla Ranch and familiarizing yourself with the team, you’ll begin your five-day horseback ride through the Sacred Valley. Here you’ll be given the opportunity to take ancient roads that wind through the Andean mountain range before delving into forest canyons. You’ll start off with a view of Mount Salkantay, one of the most sacred peaks in Inca mythology and the highest in the region – not something you would likely get to see with a normal visit to Machu Picchu. At this point, you’ll get to witness a mystical offering to Mother Earth at the Chakana, the ancient Incan cross – you’ll notice the symbol everywhere in Peru, but its original meaning remains mysterious. The ceremony is performed by a local Shaman, affording you a profound glimpse into the ancient culture of the region and the spiritual forces that make this such a special and sacred place.

Throughout your five-day ride through the valley, nature will provide you with unique and stunning experiences: swimming in glacial lakes, circling some of the highest peaks in the world, and enjoying picnic lunches at incredible scenic viewpoints. Your evenings will be spent in cozy and beautiful mountain lodges, allowing weary travelers to soak in a luxurious jacuzzi and enjoy aperitifs around a fireplace. Peruvian dinners – light and traditional – full of fresh ingredients designed to provide satisfying energy after long horse rides will be in store.
